Internet Information Server, or IIS, is an HTTP server service that runs on Microsoft server OSes. IIS installation exists only as a part of a Windows Server installation, in the same way that Internet Explorer exists only as part of a Windows installation. "IIS Lite" versions may be installed on home and workstation Windows versions for specific low-traffic uses, however.

IIS and Apache are the two largest players in the webserver market.
