I hate to keep picking on you, Morten, but what is the purpose of your adding "hostname localhost" to the instructions for installing the mysql port? --Jimbo 02:47, 2 Sep 2005 (EDT)
It is a well known trick to ensure good build of MySQL, otherwise you should mention that it is important to have good working DNS settings.

makes sense. added back in with explanation. please don't just blindly stick things in without explaining them, though. =) --Jimbo 09:22, 2 Sep 2005 (EDT)
[edit] that's common for a lot of programs actually
a lot of programs/unixes work much better if they can resolve right away -- solaris installs for example, go much smoother (and since a solaris manual install is like 40 miles of bad road, you want as smooth as possible....) if they can resolve the hostname (or if they can get it via DHCP).
